Today the FDA submitted a budget request of $4 billion to 'transform' food safety and public health promotion in this country for fiscal year 2011. This would mark a 23% increase on the FDA's current budget of $3.3 billion.
Proposal includes improvements in:
- Safety standards
- Traceability frameworks
- Import safety checks
- Risk analysis
- Medical device safety
- Modernization of regulatory science
Should be interesting to see how this proposal gets voted on considering the debts our country is in. Do you think this is where our resources should be allocated? Does food safety make your list of important policy issues?
